A Race and a Restaurant

In September, David signed up to be a part of the Indianapolis Corporate Challenge.  Over 50 corporations attended, and there were over 8,000 participants.  It was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and there were a variety of competitive events, such as tug-of-war, basketball, a 5k, soccer, etc.  David decided to run the 800 race, which is a mile-and-a-half.  David has been running most every night for months and is in excellent shape.  He ran track in high school (as a sprinter).  The 800 is a tough run, because it's kind of in-between a sprint and long-distance, so you have to run fairly fast for a longer time.

It was a sunny and pretty warm day at the track, and we were running late because of me.  I could tell David was nervous and just wanted the race to be over.  Finally it was his division's turn to run, and off they went!  The kids and I wished him luck and then walked over to the finish line.  He powered through (feeling pretty miserable afterwards), and won 2nd place!  Woohoo!  Here's a photo I snapped as he was pushing through the very end--

After the race, we checked out the kid zone.  Eli rode a BIG bike (with my help), attempted the football toss, and high-fived a jaguar mascot.  :)  We all ate a free pizza lunch, and Eli made friends with random people.

Later that evening we went out for dinner at Steak 'n Shake (kids eat free Saturdays!).  We hardly ever go out to eat, and it was fun for all!  Both kids donned their hats and played with their homemade paper cars, and I believe we made quite a ruckus.  :)
