Easter (Part II)

For the week leading up to Easter I tried talking about those special and sacred events a lot with Eli.  He knows the Resurrection story pretty well already.  I've wanted to do Resurrection Eggs with him, and this year found a simpler version that's better suited for the very young ages.  Instead of 12 eggs with a lot of focus on the crucifixion, this version had six.  I put the eggs together myself, and it was very simple to do so.  Each egg held a symbol of the events that occurred (there was a piece of bread--sacrament, a cross, a piece of cloth--the linens he was wrapped in, a small rock--the stone covering the tomb, an empty egg--Resurrection, and then candy--representing the sweet gift of Easter) and a strip of paper with some scriptures to read that corresponded.  We opened one egg a night, and Eli LOVED this activity.  I loved having the visual objects, and reading and thinking about it each day.  I'm excited to make this a yearly tradition!

On Easter morning Eli and I worked together to make Resurrection Rolls for breakfast.  This is another great activity that I love and that has great value.  Each step of the process has scriptures to read.  It shows good symbolism, and turns into such a yummy treat!  We will also make this our breakfast every Easter.  While the rolls were baking we showed the kids the "He Lives" Easter video the Church put out.  Then we opened Easter baskets!
The marshmallows were a little stale, and didn't melt!  For the kids' rolls I took them out so they could see the "empty tomb."

We headed to my parent's that morning to watch General Conference and celebrate Easter.  It's hard to focus well on talks with little ones around, but I've studied a couple talks every day since, and have gained much from the inspired messages.

Eli colored eggs during Conference (Clara was napping), and afterwards we had a little egg hunt in the yard.  Eli was a bit possessive of the eggs.  He raced through the yard collecting them as fast as he could.  Clara, on the other hand, would take her time toddling to one egg at a time, and of course was pleased as punch for the few eggs in her basket.  Eli also became quite a fan of hard-boiled eggs.  On the left here he was digging into a few eggs (though he would not eat the yoke, even with the deviled eggs).

Too busy enjoying their spoils to smile for the camera!

So grateful for the gift our Savior gave; that He lives, and that we can all live again, too!
