Camping Out

The first weekend in May was the annual Fathers & Sons Camp-out that our church does.  A year later Eli still could remember the details of his trip last year, and was very much looking forward to it again!  David, on the other hand, was less-than-thrilled.  Apparently the campsite is right next to interstate 465, so it's very very loud (this year he made sure to bring ear plugs, but he said he still woke about 10 times in the night).  He also wishes there were activities to do, such as fishing, or sports to play.  But he was a good sport, and Eli's excitement helped him to not dread it quite as much.  ;)

We had an enormous amount of rain all week leading up to the camp-out.  But thankfully that day was sunny and warm!  ALL DAY LONG Eli asked when Dad would be home so they could go camping.  He got packed way in advance, too.  Last year they were one of the first to arrive, so this year David came home from work and ate dinner at home first and then they headed out.

Off they go!

David said even at 11:00 p.m. there were still lots of kids up and making a lot of noise.  Crazy!

Last year Eli would only eat uncooked marshmallows.  This year he actually ate a full s'more!

I love this picture.  It perfectly captures the essence of boys camping in the woods.  I believe the sticks were guns and they were playing an "attack."  Eli went on and on about how much fun he had playing with the other boys.  He and David also went on a hike together.

After a pancake breakfast everyone packed up and left the campgrounds pretty early.  David and Eli went and did several errands, while Clara and I went to a few garage sales and then came home and did chores (very glamorous girls' time).  When the boys finally got home Eli was very happy and told us how much he missed us, but what a great time he had.  :)
