David went to work a little later so he could run out and grab donuts and eat quickly with us.
Eli's birthday fell on a Friday, so he got to go to school. He thought it was GREAT to go to school on his big day! I had a birthday badge for him to wear, and he also received another badge and a crown from his teacher. The kiddos and I came to have lunch with him on his birthday. Usually we bring Wendy's when we come, but for his birthday he BEGGED me to let him order a sunbutter sandwich from the school. Haha! He took a couple bites and then thought "Yuck!" At least he knew he wasn't missing out on something really good!
We went out to dinner at Chick-fil-A as a family that night, and celebrated with a party with grandparents the following night at our house.
He received a Paw Patrol playset with characters, the Tortuga from Wild Kratts (which he was SO excited about, but I was sure disappointed in its tiny size!), walkie talkies, and his first nerf guns with a target board to go with them (I am NOT a gun fan, even nerf style!).
About Eli--
Eli attends full-day kindergarten and has done so awesome with school! As his teacher says, he always does his best work, very polite, a friend to everyone, everyone loves him, is a good listener, etc. She's never once had anything negative to say about him. He really loves school and I think it's been good for him. He's not a full-fledged reader but learns his sight words quickly. Given the fact that he didn't even know all his letters before kindergarten started, he's really doing marvelously. He also attends a Speech group once a week at school.
Eli thinks friends are the greatest. He's always talking about his buddies from school, and always trying to plan playdates with them.
He lost his first tooth the day before his birthday! It fell out after we had put him to bed and he was wiggling it pretty hard. He has now lost three teeth all together, and his 6-year molars are coming in. I was surprised at how fast his adult teeth grew in. Whenever he has a wiggly tooth it doesn't seem to take very long until it falls out. He can't help but wiggle it himself!
He loves reading together! We make weekly trips to the local libraries and bring home about 25 books each week. I have rarely brought home the same book twice. It's wonderful to be able to read long, fun, or funny books together.
Eli has struggled so much with temper tantrums in the past. Thankfully now they only happen once in a blue moon. He is MUCH better at regulating his emotions and making sense of them now. The only thing that's still a challenge for him is not getting so grumpy/cranky. He will be so cheerful and chipper one minute, then a major grump the next! I thought we had a few years at least before dealing with such roller coaster moods. He also struggles with patience (who doesn't?!) with Clara specifically, and only is willing to play with her if HE calls all the shots (naturally). So they are best buddies just as long as he wants to be (though he refuses to let her in his room, the room that in the next couple months will be THEIR room).
