I know this post is a bit late, but it's such an important subject that I still wanted to make sure to write about it. It has to do with our favorite man around the house--David, who's more affectionately known as "Honey" and "Dada." : )
David is one exceptional father, and let me tell you, this little boy is crazy about his daddy. Since the day Eli was born, David has been 100% involved (whether I wanted him to be or not ; )--changing diapers, giving bottles, giving baths, reading stories, making up tricks, and playing all sorts of imaginary games to keep our little sweetie endlessly entertained. He is incredibly over-protective, and worries non-stop about Eli's safety.
He's also of course a very frugal father, and makes sure that we always find the best deals before spending in the name of our son's health and happiness. : )
Everything David does is for his family. As I've mentioned previously, David's taken a recent interest in photography. Before this interest came about, one of David's top interests was Allen Edmonds dress shoes. He'd accumulated several pairs (totaling hundreds of dollars), and could always be found looking at more of them online. But after some time, David realized that these material possessions were not bringing him any happiness, and were actually making him feel prideful that he wore such nice shoes. It was then that he decided to sell all his fancy dress shoes and buy a nice camera, so he could better capture all of the special moments of our family. I'm so proud of this decision he made, and I have seen such joy emanating from him as he learns new photography techniques, and sees his work being paid off in his great photos.
Most people think that David is such a serious, introverted type (which he is), but one of the things I love best about him is that he has such a silly side. He is seriously just one big kid. : ) I think he genuinely enjoys playing with Eli, and getting to try out his vast amount of talented voices and sound effects.
David's such a hard worker. He doesn't have much time for "fun" things because he spends his evenings studying for the CPA exams. He's halfway done, and will be taking the next one on July 3rd! Even though he's been feeling so burned out, he keeps plugging away at it. (That's some great determination if you ask me!)
The absolute best thing about David is that he is a worthy priesthood holder. It is such a comfort to have that in our home, and to receive blessings when we need them. He is the patriarch of our home, and even though we have plenty of disagreements, we are a united team with the same goals for our family. I am so grateful that he can continually forgive all my many faults, and know that even though I'm far from perfect, bit by bit I'm trying to be a better wife and mother. I couldn't be the woman that I am, and that I want to become, without his constant support.
I hope our boys will always walk in their father's footsteps.
I had my wisdom teeth removed on Monday, which means David has taken over as "Mom" for the last few days. And he's done an excellent job! He's taken Eli out to the mall, Goodwill, and Trader Joe's, they've gone swimming at our apartment pool, he's made dinner (David's cooking is the best!), tried to do some cleaning (unfortunately that's not his strong suit : ), kept our unusually cranky kiddo as happy as he could, and prepared me item after item of mushy food. If that wasn't enough, he brought these flowers home for me today. It's the little things like that that really make a big difference--showing that he cares and loves me and our family.
I love you, Sweets! Thank you for being a husband I can be proud of, and a father our kids can look up to.
