Last Saturday David ran his first 5k! He ran track in high school, and a little bit in college (sprinting), but he had gotten out of the running habit since then. He'd been training for this race for a couple months, going out running every evening. David's enjoyed picking up running again, and has said that he's felt more energized and healthy.
The 5k was a Race for the Heart, and David's work, Duke Realty, was the sponsor for it. It was held downtown at the canal, and boy did people show their support! It was pretty well packed. Most of the people that were there were walkers, though.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous that day. It had cooled down quite a bit, so David was so lucky to not have to run through awful heat and humidity.
As David prepared for his big race day, he felt that he would do really well. Unfortunately Eli and I passed our colds to David the day before the race, so he didn't have quite the stamina that he'd kept during practices. He did an AWESOME job, though, and Eli and I were so proud to cheer him on!
After the race. He was so tired and terribly sore that night! (But on the plus side, we got free chocolate milk, apples, bananas, and granola bars! : )
The walkers taking off--
The last few steps of the race!
Finish Line! He ran in a little over 23 minutes.
Eli thought he'd give the apple a try. (He doesn't eat fruit, remember?) He made some teeth marks but that was it. : )
Eli was in charge of running the show!
Since the weather was so perfect, when we got back to Westfield we picked up some subs and ate a picnic lunch at the park! It was Eli's first picnic lunch on the ground. He didn't quite understand that you're supposed to sit on the blanket. : )
Eli and Daddy horsing around. It's so nice when they get quality time together.
"Bye!" He walked pretty far away from us!
Loved my beautiful day with my little family!
