I let Eli pick out his own folder and backpack. He picked Army Camo, though he thinks of Camo as meaning Safari-style.
Parents weren't allowed to come into the classroom with their kids the first couple weeks, so on that first day while we were all waiting in the gym, I introduced Eli to another little boy that I overheard was in his class. They immediately started running and playing together. Then when it was time to go with their teachers, Eli and the other boy (Cole) walked together holding hands. :) As it turns out, they sit next to each other in class and have stayed great buds.
He has come to school in many of his different hats and get-up. Thankfully his teachers are good sports and don't have a problem with it. They mentioned to me early on in the school year what a happy boy he is. He's enthusiastic about school, follows directions, gets along well with others, raises his hand when needs help, and tries to do his best work. Sounds pretty awesome to me!
The first couple days of school after we dropped Eli off, Clara just cried and cried. She missed Eli and didn't understand why he wasn't with us. After those times, though, she seemed to realize that an absent brother means she can finally have a turn to play in his off-limits room! (Eli is so obstinate about ever letting Clara in his room). Clara plays very well on her own at home, and is also pretty good at accompanying me places, so it works well with Eli at school. We get errands done some days, and chores done some days. She's a great lil' sidekick!
