Easter

Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays.  Growing up I loved that I got a beautiful new Easter dress, and I always loved how everything in nature was coming alive again.  Flowers and trees in bloom, birds singing, blue skies; such a beautiful time of year.

But it's what Easter represents that makes it such a special holiday.  I am so thankful that because Jesus Christ died and was resurrected that this life is not the end for us.  He truly loves us so eternally to give us such an amazing gift.

Our Easter celebrations started a week before Easter Sunday, with opening one Resurrection Egg each night during scripture time.  I do a simplified version that I found online, made for younger kids.  I like it really well.  There's an object in each egg that symbolizes something in Jesus' last week, plus scripture to read with it.  I like that we're thinking and talking about those special, crucial parts at the end of Jesus' life.

Eli ended up with a cold and pink eye at the beginning of Easter week.  He had to miss school that Monday and Tuesday.  I was getting nervous because that Wednesday was his school Easter party.  I'm Head Room Mom and was in charge of the party.  Of course we could have missed if we had to, but I really didn't want us to miss it!

Thankfully Eli was in the clear to attend his party.  For the party snack I made these rice krispie treat nests.  Kids are so strange.  I really thought these would have been eaten (at least mostly), but many were picked over and then thrown away!  It always makes me want to cry a little when they do that.  :/

The activities planned were egg-on-spoon race, egg hunt, and pin-the-tail-on-the-bunny.  I quickly put together the bunny pin game right before the party.  Art is not something I have any skill in, so I was glad it turned out okay.  And I was so happy to find pom poms at Target that already had adhesive attached to them!  Made my job so much easier!

Eli enjoying his snack and happy to be at his party!
Clara working on the egg hunt in the gym.  She sure LOVES being a part of Eli's class activities!
Eli zoomed through the gym fast and collected his 10 eggs in record speed!

Don't drop the egg!

Easter morning we made Resurrection Rolls for breakfast.  I love that these are used to teach about what happened to Christ's body after he died and was resurrected.  It's also super nice how easy to make and yummy they are!

After breakfast the kids opened their Easter baskets.  I kept them pretty simple.

After sacrament meeting on Easter we drove to David's parent's house to spend the afternoon.  We were also celebrating David's dad's 60th birthday.  We were so thankful for a beautiful weather day!

The kids were definitely excited to go on the egg hunt!

Didn't realize for a while that Eli went out without his shoes.  That kid was on a crazed candy mission!

Later in the day the cousins sat outside together watching cars go by.
And finished off with egg-dyeing.  Eli is a HUGE fan of hard-boiled eggs.  He ate several that day!
It was an early Easter this year, but a happy one!
