A Day on the Prairie

Eli had really been itching to go to Conner Prairie to see the new baby animals all spring.   But until a couple weeks ago they were only open Thursday-Sundays.  Thursdays were our only available days to go, and EVERY SINGLE ONE was rainy/too cold/too muddy!  We finally made it there a couple of weeks ago and had a fun visit.

Clara hopped right up on this dog statue like it was a horse to ride.  :)

Their favorite part is always the tram ride!  I usually enjoy it, too, except going over big bumps with my big belly was a little too much for me.

Eli was talking to the very real-life statue.  :)  Love how he wore his Civil War hat, too.  :)

You can't tell in the picture, but in the back was a large momma pig, and in the front is her bundle of piglets.  We watched them for a little while and it was so cute whenever a little piglet would shuffle around on top of its brothers and sisters sleeping.  At a different pen we were able to see a few piglets running around.  The kids really liked the pigs.

Clara LOVED the Animal Encounters barn, where there are sheep and goats out that you can go up to and pet.  (Eli seemed to be like, "Yeah, whatever.")  The tiny lambs were so sweet!

We spent some time at the Lenape Indian Village, where we sat and watched people try a tomahawk throw.  Somehow I didn't take pictures, but both kids were riveted.  An American Indian would teach each adult how to stand and how to hold the tomahawk, and then how to throw it, to try to hit a target of wood.  We watched several people and many hit the target!  It was pretty cool.  Eli hopes to get a turn to try it next time.  :)

Eli and Clara both helped this lady hoe in her garden.  Clara didn't understand how to use the hoe and quickly lost interest, but Eli took the work very seriously and worked really hard all around the garden.  He really was taking pride in his hard work and wiped his brow when he was done.  :)

I love seeing the horse.  Such a beautiful creature!  Clara walked right below her and the horse put her head down and almost pulled Clara's bow right off her!  It really looked like the top of Clara's head was in the horse's mouth!  We just laughed and Clara was fine.  We joked about that horse wanting to eat her bow!

It was a gorgeous day to spend outside, and a good time had by all.
