Field Trips

I had the privilege to accompany both Eli and Clara on their school field trips in the fall!  Having a parent chaperone was required for Clara's field trip (thank goodness).  They met at the preschool and rode the bus to Russell Farms.  We weren't able to ride on the bus because children under 2 aren't allowed, so we followed the bus there.  It had been POURING rain for days and days before her field trip.  We were soo lucky to have a dry and sunny day (though it was very muddy)!  Clara had the best time on her field trip.  She loved every thing she did and had an awesome attitude the whole time.  Ezra was perfect and patient through it all, too.

Playing on some statues as we waited to get in.
The field trip began with being shown some animals in a barn.  A farm worker told us about the animal and then brought it around for everyone to have a turn to pet it.  We saw a cow, goat, sheep, rabbit, chicken, pony, etc.

Any time we pass by one of these photo ops Clara HAS to stick her head in, of her own accord!  She's such a good picture poser!

We watched a little video about working on the farm.  Then the kids got to try their hand at farm chores themselves!  First they had to milk a cow--

Then they collected eggs, wiped them off, and placed them in egg cartons.

Next they had to scoop some hay.

Last they had to place some hay bales into their tractor beds and drive them up a ramp.  Sure cute to watch Clara work hard on the farm!

On the hayride to the pumpkin patch!  She got to take two small pumpkins home.
Eli's field trip was also at a pumpkin patch (Stuckey Farms), but it was a couple weeks after Clara's, on Halloween.  It was a gorgeous day but a very cold morning to be outside.  I wasn't allowed to be an official chaperone because I had Ezra with me (Clara was at preschool), but I was able to drive myself and meet them there and join in with everything.  Eli unfortunately left his gloves back at school. He had a really fun time but I know he was too cold at some times.

The first graders were split up (even Eli's class was so he wasn't in the same group as his buddies), and the first thing Eli's group got to do was play on the outside equipment!  We had never been to Stuckey Farms before (except to pick apples with Clara's Joy School group last year).  It was a fun area to play on!  The kids thought this long slide was super cool!  They all immediately ran and lined up to go down it.  There was also a pirate ship to play on and a track that they ran around a little.

The kids (especially the boys) jumped around a lot on the stack of hay bales.

Giddy up, cowboy Ezra!

It was so funny watching Ezra waddling around with all those clothes on!  He fell over a time or two.  :)
The next station was inside a tent.  We listened to a presentation from the people who work there about the apple trees, how they grow and chance through the year.  The kids were able to have some apple cider and taste a few different apples.

The kids looking for a bear that comes around.  They found him!  I love this expression I caught of Eli.

Lastly we took a hayride over to the pumpkin patch.  The kids got to go through a short maze in the patch.  The pumpkins were pretty much all cleared out since it was so late in the season, but they were each able to choose one small one near the store.

There was the creepiest talking pumpkin on the hayride, haha!

Eli was very cold, but he had a great time. So glad I could be a part of it!
