He wanted to drive in the middle of the road, just like the big cars do!
At Ezra's 3-year-old checkup back in July he was 38.25 in (50th%) and 36.5 pounds (90th%).
He laid under the pool with his head out like this and said he was a turtle. Haha!
Hammering in the Makesmith Shop at Conner Prairie.
He went through a phase where he was OBSESSED with water! He always wanted to play in the sink, and sometimes I stuck him in the tub in the middle of the day just because he loved it. We had a couple of bathroom floods when he overfilled the sink and I didn't realize the drain was stopped.
One day while the kids were watching a show Ezra moved out of his chair and ended up with his head stuck in it! I couldn't help him out of it! I called David to come home and cut the chair for us. (Luckily it was close to the end of the day for him.) Ezra was such a champ! He even fell asleep with his head stuck! He was pretty worried and a bit shaken when he woke up right before David got home and saw the blade was close to his ear. Thankfully David got Ezra out okay and fixed the chair back to normal!
He also went through a phase where he loved to get himself dressed. He would put on several layers of clothes all by himself. We didn't leave the house like that, but it sure made him proud of himself!
Ezra loves any chance to visit the Big Kids' School. Other students always fawn over him, and he doesn't mind the attention! He and Clara came along with me to the end-of-the-year Field Day and were able to participate in some of the games.
Even got to enjoy his own shaved ice!
LOVES being outside, loves climbing, sliding, swinging, and stomping.
For a few months before his 3rd birthday Ezra began eyeing other kids' scooters at parks. He was very fascinated and intrigued! He received a scooter for his birthday and was elated! He quickly became very good at going fast!
He can sit for hours making playdoh designs! For a long time he would make rows and rows of shooting stars. After a while he moved on to 'playdoh pies,' where he would roll out the playdoh and stick it in the oven, then move it to his toy oven, then serve it to everyone to eat!
Ezra's favorite book is We're Going on a Bear Hunt. It has been a favorite for years and he never tires of it. He thinks about it often and loves to act it out. This was a fun video I took of him last summer when he had the bear on his mind. :)
We check out these board books from the library. The first is the "hats" book, the second picture is from the "beards" book. Ezra gets a real kick out of acting out the character that the hat and/or beard turn him into!
Ezra has two "fashion hats" that David bought mostly for pictures, but sometimes he wears them for church or things. One night while getting ready for bed, Ezra picked up one of those hats and did a fun little dance like he was a broadway baby, bow and all!
These two can be such good buddies! As the play tent has been out this winter they have loved playing "camping." They pack up a basket of books, brings pillows and blankets, pack up some pretend food, and then they're off! Soo many times when Clara has come home from school Ezra eagerly says, "Let's go camping!"

The baby storytime at the Carmel library (our personal favorite), always ends with bubbles!
Ezra loves playing at both of his grandparent's houses! At G&G Hayes one of his favorite activities is playing along to this guitar.
Ezra went through a time where he really enjoyed making me birthday cards! He would scribble on a piece of paper, fold it, then bring it to me and say "happy birthday! Open it!" I would excitedly ask him to tell me about it and he would make incoherent noises, then say "happy brtay. i lub you." Heart-melter!
He is a pretty patient car-rider. He will happily look at books and/or be content to listen to the CDs that we check out from the library.
His blankie scraps (his favorite blankie has ripped in 3 pieces) are still his most treasured possession. He will curl up anywhere with them, even on the kitchen floor! His thumb can quite often be found in his mouth,
Video of him trying his hand at golf at his grandparent's house--
He became quite a fast tricycle peddler last summer! He really zooms around the neighborhood! Until he will randomly wear out and insist on not riding, or worse, being held the rest of the way home!
Stopping on our ride to watch the bees on the flowers--
Dress-up is one of his favorite pasttimes. It makes me sad when kids grow out of this enjoyment of dressing up and playing make-believe. I think it's the best!
When friends come to play they love to make use of our big dress-up clothes basket! Love watching the little ones together. These were two sets of sisters from church.
I potty-trained Ezra after school started for the big kids in August. He took to it super well! I used the small kiddie toilet for the first week or so, then he was fine using the regular one. I usually just kept him naked waist down at home so we could quickly run to the toilet. He has had very few accidents! He often doesn't want to stop playing to use the toilet (what child does??) and something he and David started was talking about listening to what would come out of him: a stream or a river? Ezra later added a waterfall and a storm, haha! I still put him in a diaper at night, though he's woken up dry many times. Interesting how the Hayes boys were a BREEZE to potty-train and the girl was a nightmare! So thankful he was easy!

| Stamping apple art! |
Every so often we go on simple field trips with our Joy School group. The first one was to the apple orchard! It was Ezra's first time and he got quite a kick out of it!
I love using great children's books as part of the Joy School theme for the day, and then doing an activity that went along with it. For this day we read the story Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper. Then we made our own version of pumpkin soup, which was really just water, salt, and food coloring, but the kids all thought it was so much fun! They each had a few turns to stir it and taste it. :)
He is a big broccoli fan! He loves to take the big head of broccoli and chow down on it!
With a dad like David these kiddos are always up to something crazy! This night we had received all of these boxes of toilet paper as a package delivery. Boxes are a kid's dream to play in, right?! David placed Ezra on the tip-top of the box stack and Ezra even posed up there! Kid with no fear!
Singing "happy birthday to Jesus.
He loved hearing about baby Jesus so much that he kept wanting to act out the Nativity and be baby Jesus himself, hence the swaddled clothing! Haha!
I've always thought of Ezra as our easiest, most cheerful kid. (Maybe because he hasn't yet the older, grumpier ages!) But even though he is generally easy-going, he can also be known to get a little temper, almost always stemmed from his siblings' egging him on or showing him unkindness. When he's upset he will scrunch up his face, yell "Heeyyyy!" and hit the person. He will stop pretty quickly and is good at helping make amends. The only times where he stubbornly doesn't want to stop fighting are when I know he's especially tired and/or overstimulated. Spending some one-on-one time together calms him down pretty quickly.
Ez LOVES our record player. Some of the records are stories such as Peter Rabbit, The Three Little Pigs, Chicken Little, and Cry Baby Duck. Others are music like Robin Hood, Chili Sauce, and The Hokey Pokey. His favorite record, though, is the Beach Boys! (Which he has been known to fondly call "The Sand Boys.") A few months ago he was referring to their record as "happy bottoms." We couldn't figure out how in the world he took that name from it! Finally once when we listened to the record again and the chorus to "Help Me, Rhonda" came on, we learned that the chorus faintly sounds like "happy bottoms!" Or at least to Ezra it does! It's the funniest thing! One day when we were home recovering from the flu I took this video of him singing his Beach Boys collection.
Had our picture taken at a library event.
Ezra and Daddy enjoying some time being silly together. This act is called the "zizzerzazzerzuz," named after the Dr. Seuss character.
I wish this sweetie boy could stay this little! It is so hard to watch your last baby grow. He's the best 3-year-old around!
