New Beginnings

One of two events that a ward puts on for the Young Women is New Beginnings.  I was in charge of it this time, and came across awesome ideas online for the Dr. Seuss-inspired theme, "Oh, the Places You'll Stand!"

The Young Women made these signs (that we placed in the hallway) off of an idea we found online.  They turned out great!

The Stake YW president spoke, then I read Dr. Seuss's "Oh, the Places You'll Go!", except it was a rewritten version to fit the YW values and theme, titled "Oh, the Places You'll Stand!"  I thought it was so clever of the author, and grateful she shared her work for others to use.  Here's where I got the rewritten version--http://sherbertcafe.blogspot.com/2013/02/oh-places-you-stand.html.

Afterwards, we had the audience enter Dr. Seuss' "Values Land!"  There they moved to different value lands where a YW was assigned to speak about her value, her Dr. Seuss book, and how the two related.  (I also found this idea online.)  Each girl did a fantastic job!  The YW and 1st Counselor worked on the decorations, making these value-colored truffula trees, and value banners for each table.

Faith--Horton Hears a Who
Divine Nature--The Sneetches
Individual Worth--I Wish That I Had Duck Feet
Knowledge--I Can Read With My Eyes Shut

Choice & Accountability--The Lorax
Good Works--The King's Stilts
Integrity--Horton Hatches The Egg
Virtue--I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew

For each table, I put together a framed quote from the book with a picture from the book.  I painted the frames to coordinate with their value.

Everyone then went back to their seats and we spotlighted the 3 incoming Beehives.  Each of the Beehives had an older sister in YW already, so I asked those girls to spotlight their sisters.  After each spotlight, the Beehive Adviser and 2nd Counselor over the Beehives welcomed the new Beehive by accessorizing her in Dr. Seuss-wear, and then they took a selfie together afterwards.  So fun!

The Bishop (dressed as Thing 2) closed with some remarks, and then we  got to eat the yummy and appropriately-themed refreshments made by our 2nd Counselor!

The YW president put together these crazy socks for the girls to take home.
Our YW presidency, along with Beehive adviser.  Terrific ladies!

It was a great night thanks to everyone's hard work and participation!
