Spring

Spring is my favorite time of year. I love to watch the earth come alive again after the bleakness of winter.  Everything becomes beautiful again as color is brought back to nature!  Easter is also my favorite holiday.  I love teaching my children the story of Easter.  While the egg hunts and egg-decorating are fun activities, I most look forward to explaining to my kids in meaningful ways the events that happened to Jesus Christ during his last week on earth.

At the end of March we went to David's parent's house to celebrate his baby sister Lillie's first birthday.  Since it was also so close to Easter I brought eggs for the kids to go on a egg hunt together.  (Egg hunts are always more fun with other kids!)  With the ground covered in several inches of snow, we hid half of the eggs in the house for the youngest kiddos, and half outside for the older two.  Ez and Clara and their little cousins Evelyn and Wyatt, were cute to watch searching for eggs around the living room.  Clara's so funny.  Every time she found an egg she immediately sat down to open it and eat the candy.  She still has not yet grasped the knowledge that if you collect more eggs you will have more candy!  :)  Ezra caught along on the fun of it pretty quickly.

Eli and his cousin Savannah got to be the adventurous souls who braved the weather in a more-challenging egg hunt.  David and his brother Josh hid the eggs, and they were pretty good at making them tricky to find or hard to reach!  I'm sure the candy they received in those eggs felt well-earned.  :)

Also before the actual holiday Clara had an Easter party at preschool.  I am one of the Room Moms and always love helping in the classroom and interacting with the other students.

Easter Sunday also fell on our church's day of General Conference, where all members gather where they are to tune into a broadcast from Salt Lake City to hear our prophet, apostles, and other leaders of our church speak to us.  It's a two-day event, several hours long, and time filled with much inspiration.  We made our resurrection rolls for breakfast.  I also hung up lots of pictures in a row that portrayed Christ's life.  (I have them from a leftover Primary packet.)  I loved adding this to our additions.  We had been doing our resurrection eggs all week and talking about Jesus, but visuals always make such a difference!

We opened Easter baskets in the middle of the day on Sunday.

It's been the strangest spring in Indiana!  We had snow about 3 times in April, and then it has been a very hot May!  Spring seems to have disappeared this year!  We had one day in March or April where it rained and rained and rained.  Just poured down for a long time!  It was the only "warm" day we were having, so once the rain finally stopped for a bit the kids and I went out for a walk and to jump around in puddles (we practically had a pond form in our backyard!).

Video of the kids playing in the puddles.  Crazy Clara took Eli's dare (of course) to lay down in the water!

We love the time that we can spend playing outside!

Clara and I rode on a "Mommy & Me" swing, where the seats are connected and face each other so you can sit and swing together.  She loved it!

As soon as weather turns nicer we love to visit as many parks as we are able!

This park has cool pretend caves for kids to play in.  There are small animal statues and fossils all around, and also bugs.  This is where I heard Ezra first say "Bugs!"  He says it over and over when he sees them, super cute!  :)

One Sunday afternoon when we were out for a family walk, we passed by a house that had a powerwheel left on the curb next to the trash can, to be tossed out.  The kids immediately grew excited and hopped on to ride it.  It wasn't battery-powered then of course, so David being the good dad that he is, pushed the kids down to the pond and back.  Eli naturally wanted to keep the jeep, so David ordered a new battery for it, gave it a paint job, and fixed up the tires.  Practically good as new!  Poor Ez.  He gets stuck with riding in the trunk.  He loves to be the one sitting at the wheel, but is too scared to sit in the passenger side when Eli is driving.

We spent Memorial Day at my parent's house.  It was the first time we had been there since Christmas, as my parents had spent the previous three months in California helping my brother's family while his wife was on bedrest.  We were so happy to have them back in Indiana!  My mom took a photo of us while we were swinging on their porch swing.
