Happenings

As I've done a couple times in the past, I'd like to write a post of "the latest" with David and I that hasn't already been blogged about.
  • A few weeks ago we had our friends the Barbosas over for dinner (from our last ward).  They are almost due with the arrival of their first baby, which we are so thrilled about!  It was so nice to see them and catch up.
  • David and I got callings in our new ward!  He is the Finance Clerk, which means he has to stay after church to count the tithing, write checks, etc.  This is such a perfect calling for him.  All three of us have stayed after church actually, which makes Sundays very long days.  (Church from 11-2, staying after until 3:45ish, with a 22 minute drive each way.)  I'm not sure how long I'll be willing to just drive one car to church.  My new calling is a Primary teacher for the 5-year-old class.  I have five students and they are all great kids, very full of energy, happy, and chatty.  : )  It's actually my first time as a Primary teacher (or in Primary at all, besides for subbing occasionally).  It will be a terrific experience!
  • We have loved hitting up garage sales, Goodwill, and Once Upon a Child for some awesome goodies!  We have a Goodwill just down the road, and Eli and I go in every few weeks so I can rifle through the children's books while he plays in the water fountain.  Each time we go I leave with 6 or 7 books for 6 or 7 dollars!  Eli is such a reader, that I like to continually add to his library so we have plenty of choices!  So many of his favorite books were found there, such as Rumble in the Jungle, Bread & Jam for Frances, and The Wheels on the Bus.
  • A couple weeks ago we hosted a family dinner with my parents, sister Rebecca, and brother-in-law.  I made one of my favorite dishes, Hawaiian Haystacks.  It was the first time we've had them all over for dinner in our new house, and it was a very enjoyable time.
  • We had the groundbreaking for the Indianapolis temple this past Saturday!  The temple will actually be built in Carmel, just 20 minutes from our house!  David's parents were able to attend the groundbreaking, and came for a visit afterwards.  Having a temple in Indiana will be such a tremendous blessing for us Hoosiers, who have greatly anticipated its arrival.
  • Also this past Saturday I was able to attend the General Relief Society broadcast with my mom.  Rebecca was supposed to join us but ended up having car trouble.  My mom came up to my area, we ate a nice dinner at Mcallister's Deli behorehand, then headed over to my stake center.  The nice thing about moving wards but staying in the same stake is that when you have stake activities you get to see old and new friends!  : )  The talks in the broadcast were wonderful, and very much needed on my part.  David was in charge of Eli that evening and they had so much fun together!  They ate dinner, played at the park, and also had bath time before bed.  Eli and I are so blessed to have such a good father in our home.
  • I gave a talk in church (with only three days notice!) on family.  (Can't get a better topic than that, though!)  My parents came to hear me speak.  It went well, except I embarrassingly took up most of the last speaker's time.  Ooops.
  • David has been preparing to take the 4th CPA exam Oct. 15th.  Because he wasn't able to finish all 4 tests in the allotted time, he has to retake a test that he's already passed.  He will retake that test at the end of November.  He also has to retake one test that he didn't pass, and will do that in January.  Then hopefully we can say sayonara to those icky exams forever!
  • David and I started watching the television show Revenge.  We found the first season on Netflix, and the second season just started.  The show is based off of The Count of Monte Cristo.  It's rather twisted with some incredibly unlikeable characters, but very suspenseful and thought-provoking.  I am also enjoying watching Once Upon a Time and Call the Midwife (I think).
  • I am so excited that it's Fall, but the weather's been much cooler than it should be.  It seems like we went from blazing hot straight to bundling up without that perfect in-between!  We've been having many rainy days which has made it difficult for David to mow the grass.  Currently we are those people whose yard looks more like a meadow...
  • I cannot for the life of me find the motivation to exercise!  Maybe it's because I'm always so cold and can't bear to pry myself from my warm blankets.  : )  Anyone have any great tips for getting motivated?
Most importantly we are enjoying life and enjoying each other!

  1. Laura, we are those people too with our lawn. I am starting to get embarrassed! But we just haven't bought a lawn mower yet... And as for motivation to exercise, I can't help you there! Zach is 11 months old and some of my normal clothes STILL don't fit! haha.
