Whistle While You Work

Sometimes I enjoy cleaning.  It's kinda fun to see what needs to be done, do it, and then cross it off the list (for awhile, anyway).  I feel tremendous satisfaction when the floors shine (as much as they can for being ancient), the sinks sparkle, and the coffee table glows after a good polish.  It bothers the heck out of me when I have a messy house.  Yet it seems just minutes after I've wiped and scrubbed, the house is dirty again.  It's a never-ending cycle.  And naturally, now that there's a baby crawling around and spitting up EVERYWHERE (thank heavens for good stain removers!), the housework is in full abundance.

It's interesting how housework changes over the years.  While growing up, you're mostly responsible for your own messes, and occasionally have to pitch-in on some deep-cleaning.  Then when you enter college and live with other people, you (perhaps for the first time) have to start sharing the weight of the work, and sometimes clean messes you didn't make (unless you don't mind the stack of dirty dishes that continues to pile in the sink).  Once married, your laundry load has doubled, and you become astonished at how fast two people can fill up a trashcan.  Add kids to the equation, and you will be boggled at how much STUFF you can accumulate, and all the clutter adorning your floor.

There is a peaceful aura associated with a clean home.  Cleanliness makes me less stressed and irritated, therefore I can savor my relaxation time without the gloom of chores hanging over my head.

It's good to have work to do, and it can be good to be busy.  But of course, sometimes work can feel like a drudgery, and we get caught up in the chaos of it all.  If it ever feels that way for YOU, just think about this song.  "Hum [your] merry tune" so you can be a "cheerful chick-a-dee."  And you can just pretend you have little woodland animals helping you as you go.  : )
